2000 rearend was swapped
« on: January 17, 2016, 09:42:58 PM »
Previous owner had the rearend changed after bearing failure. He told me the original rims wouldn't fit new rearend. Is there a way to tell what the rearend came out of? They are still 19.5 10 lug. Was going to get simulators but don't know what ones would fit.
Thanks

Got any pics of said rear end? The wheel story seems a little fishy, however I would imagine you won't have any problems with just about any simulator.

Trying to post pics. I guess if simulators are universal fit its a non issue. If pic post looks like Im missing a shock or sway bar.

Looks like something from maybe an older p-30 or something. Odd how the axles have a bolt on flange instead of the splined flange with a stamped steel cap.

Still don't see a problem with simulators fitting other than it looks like the wheel studs are pretty long.

Almost looks like the bolt pattern and hub bore are larger?  Hard to tell in pics and without in person, measuring.  Have you tried installing one of your front wheels on the rear, or just popping one of each off and doing some measuring?  A quick way that wouldn't require removing 2 wheels would be, if your front wheels still have the clamping rings, just pull one of those and try to slip it over the rear's wheel studs.

Guess the previous owner doesn't have a clue what the axle came out of?  I also notice they didn't re-use the original clamping ring, instead opting to use the lug nuts with the integral washer.  Factory lugs would be conical seat and go against a clamping ring since the wheels are hub-centric, not lug-centric.

Regular 3500HD bolt pattern is 10 x 7.25" with a 5.25" hub bore.

EDIT - it appears to be a Dana axle still, if you can find the BOM #'s on it you can look up its application here: http://www2.dana.com/pdf/x510-9.pdf

Maybe so, that would make it probably the 10 x 225mm bolt pattern (about 8.8"), and hub bore of 170mm (about 6.7")

Sometimes the BOM is on a tag attached to a cover bolt, sometimes it's stamped into the tubes.  In that case it can be a bear to find especially with any significant rust.  But if you can find it, that application book I posted will tell you exactly what it came from, for when you need to order parts for it.

I was all excited to find the number today. No tag, took a scratchpad to the tube couldn't find the numbers. Going to pull it inside this weekend & wire brush it and measure the hub & lug pattern.

Thanks for the link and info!

Seeing how small the rotor is in the one pic, I'm gonna agree with RPF207 that its a ford Dana 80. They used 16" 10 lug wheels in the 90's. Keep that in mind when doing brakes! Also good chance someone opened up the wheel center on your Chevy wheels.

Also want to note the old ford f-superduty used the same 10 on 7.25 pattern with a 5.46" hub and 9/16" studs. That's what my front hubs were originally before I modified them to match my gm stuff.

Another sign it could be a ford Dana 80 is that empty lower shock mount they couldn't use because the HD has opposite shock locations. Ford kept their shocks on the same side. Therefor someone had to add that drivers side shock mount to the back of the axle
