454 fuel injectors
« on: March 01, 2016, 05:20:05 PM »
Just finished changing injectors in my 2000 454. Went to start it sounds great for a second then sputters then revs up again & dies. Starts right back up and same thing. Anyone have any ideas? New cap and rotor, fuel rail & regulator.

Sounds like a fuel problem? Can you test the fuel pressure?

Just thinking to myself :-\ :-\ :-\...wonder if mixing up the throttle body connectors would give the same symptoms? It is a bank firing fuel system, alternating from the right to the left side etc. If it ran good before the injector swap must be something you had your hands on.

Any idea what pressure is supposed to be? Renting a gauge tomorrow. The regulator I got has a set screw on it.

9-13 lbs for a throttle body setup.  You know to pinch the return line if you have no pressure..to determine if the regulator is bad... Also plugged filter will give low pressure.

Think you can adjust it up to 20lbs.

I have the schrader valve adapter that is installed at the "in" fuel line junction behind the throttle body. They also make one that replaces the inline fuel filter for testing so the test gauge screws right on.

He's a Vortec so look for 58-62 psi on that big block.  It's an SFI system

Can't really mix up the wires as they won't reach.  They're attached along the fuel rail and not really any slack to mix them up, plus the wire "memory" effect keeps them roughly where they need to be.

Just an update problem was the air cleaner ass. wasn't fully hooked up.
Found a great write-up on changing injectors on another forum by Someotherguy. Would make a great sticky on this site.

Ah, so your MAF must not have been reading properly.  Good catch and I should have thought of it. :)
