Title: 3500hd with cowl hood scoop
Post by: 454-3500-hd on May 07, 2011, 11:13:12 AM
Has anyone seen a 3500hd with a cowl hood scoop. I am looking at one that lmc truck sells with a 4" cowl induction hood scoop. I was wondering if it would look good and maybe bring the temp down some under the hood. (MarklX 454). There is a pic of my truck under the engine/drive line fourm, 91 gmc white. So let me know what y'all think. Thanks 454-3500-hd. (Ps My name is Eric)

Don't have a picture of a 3500HD with one..but I bought a 2" version and have it ready to go...just need the time to put one of my 3500HD's back together.

This looks like the one I have:

I'm iffy on the cowl hoods; if anything though I think less is more - the 2" ones look OK.

Either way you're going to hate changing passenger side wiper blades from now on.  You'll need to turn the wipers on, let them get to the far end of their sweep and immediately turn the key off, just so you can fold the arm out into its locked open position without hitting the rear of the cowl.

Of course the other downside of cowl hoods is that they're your typical aftermarket chinese steel; the fit on the couple I've seen/worked with is "OK" but the steel is very thin.  Last one I installed for a customer required that the latch be adjusted an extreme amount down before it was in the correct spot.  Be sure to do this adjusting with your grille off so you can unbolt the latch in case it gets stuck while you try to get it right.

Not a 3500HD but a 3500 cab & chassis belonging to my friend Dan, this is a Reflexxion brand 2" cowl hood though I believe you'll find they're all made by the same ching chong plant and put into whatever brand box - yes, including Goodmark.  You just pay more for that Goodmark box.
