Post by: MrC. on February 06, 2019, 10:54:48 AM
I am trying to purchase this one, low miles, looks sharp, needs a black box? otherwise it shuts off.
I have know Idea what a black box is, I am a gas owner, but love this truck.

Cool truck, looks like they did a decent job of converting it to a pickup bed.  I'd wonder if it has the rare wide-track rear axle or they used spacers to get the wheels out to match the dually fenders?  And, what kind of job did they do to relocate the spring hangers, and cut driveshaft etc. to move the axle forward 4" to make up for the wheelbase difference...check the quality of their work.

As far as the running issue, I'd run, too.  But I'm pretty biased against the 6.5TD.  There are others here that have had better luck with them, and you can also check on some of the diesel-specific forums though I can't recall which one is supposed to be the good one - it's either diesel page or diesel place.

At least it does start and run so you can hopefully verify it runs correctly before it quits.  I notice he doesn't mention any of that in the ad itself.  You can dump a lot of money into trying to make a 6.5TD reliable...and then some of them just pop for no reason and now you've got cracked heads, or a cracked block, or broken starter bolts with a damaged starter pad on the block, all other sorts of potential nightmares.  Did I mention I'm biased?
