Title: Convert to more obtainable Ford 10 bolt or Chevy 8 bolt wheels?
Post by: JohnnyDiablo on September 29, 2017, 03:37:07 PM
Is it possible to swap parts on the axle and front suspension to Ford bolt pattern?  The Alcoas for 3500HD are like hens teeth. I did some research and it sounds like welding up the bolt holes on the Dana 80 axle and redrilling for 8x6.5 is possible.  My next guess is swap rear axle?  Another possibility is swap in a Dana 70 front axle in persuit of 4x4?

Anyone solve this easily?

Another thing to keep in mind is the size wheel you plan on running and the offset. The brakes on these trucks are pretty large. I don't believe 16" wheels will fit over the calipers. I was thinking about doing some re-center 16.5" Humvee wheels but I need to actually measure how much space the brakes take up.

I'd also wonder if there really is room for redrilling to that pattern.  The existing bolt circle is 7.25" so going down to 6.5" seems sketchy, but I don't have one at hand to look at.

Then of course the brake clearance issue, as well as your load capacity with the wheel and tire combo you're considering.
